Leadbelly

ABOUT THIS ISSUE

Leadbelly (Huddie Ledbetter) was granted a pardon by hardline Texas Governor Pat Neff in 1925 after appealing to him in a song. He went on to become one of the pillars of the US folk/blues revival. I spent a lot of library time to make sure that the train seen through the bars was of a model that might have gone past his prison at that time (and was immotrtalized in his song "The Midnight Special").
